The Hollywood Reporter Roundtable – The Directors

Mike Leigh on when he decided to be a filmmaker:

I was 12. My grandfather had just died. Everybody was in the house. Old men were carrying the coffin down the stairs. There was a guy with a very long nose, and I remember thinking “This would make a great film! That’s what I want to do, I want to make films about things like this”.

…doesn’t that just sound like a Mike Leigh film?

Angelina Jolie (Unbroken), Christopher Nolan (Interstellar), Richard Linklater (Boyhood), Mike Leigh (Mr. Turner), Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) and Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game)
