In case you haven’t been totally won over by excitement for Will Gluck (Easy A)’s reimagining of Annie by way of incredible adorableness from Sia’s updated version of You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile (which I’ve embedded below) or are already incredibly excited like I am, here’s another clip to get you excited. Opportunity is a new song also written by Sia specifically for the film version, and is from a scene where Annie gives a speech at the Guggenheim Museum, wearing an updated version of that infamous red dress and everything. Casting Quvenzhane Wallis (who, in 2013, became the youngest Best Actress nominee for her excellent work in Beasts of the Southern Wild) is easily one of the best casting decisions in years, and, let’s face it, who doesn’t love Rose Byrne? How the 21st century version of this much beloved depression-set story is going to turn out remains to be seen, but with the excellent cast involved (except Cameron Diaz. A tad apprehensive about Cameron Diaz), the lack of hip hop in the music so far (which was my biggest fear), and the fact that this looks like the most adorable, joyful film to grace the screen this year, and yep, I can’t wait for this. Plus, it’s from Will Gluck, who, while Easy A isn’t all-round brilliant, gave us excellent scenes like this. Like, come on.
Should have been Patricia Clarkson’s second Oscar nomination, to be honest (I don’t even know how she only has one nomination so far)
