Film fans worldwide awoke this morning to some incredibly sad and shocking news- the legendary Philip Seymour Hoffman had suddenly passed away at age 46. From his first, memorable roles in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Hard Eight and Boogie Nights, becoming one of the acclaimed director’s regular players (he was in every film of PTA’s, excepting There Will Be Blood, and his latest, Inherent Vice), to his chilling turn as Truman Capote that saw him win universal acclaim, Hoffman was a rare artist that always promised a stellar performance. To celebrate the life of Hoffman, we look back at some personal favourite roles from his versatile filmography, works that speak for themselves.
